On the 24th of November 2024, GACRB launched its transitional justice training Manual that thematically focused on promoting a traditional justice system widely referred to as Sulhu as a pathway for reconciliation, healing and reintegration of former Boko Haram associates in Northeast Nigeria.Under our partnership with ATJLF, Sulhu Sai Da Adalci (Reconciliation Requires Justice) is the first manual published by GARCB and was designed for the Training of stakeholders including traditional rulers, faith-based actors, women, youth and persons with disabilities and to prepare communities on resettlement and reintegration of both the repentant Boko Haram members and IDPs under the Borno Model initiative of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum-led administration.
The expected impact of the Manual is to strengthen the knowledge capacity and skills of beneficiaries to become community-based peace interlocutors, contribute to the body of knowledge on localization and community ownership of transitional justice process and enhance long-term sustainability of our engagements. The first 100 cohorts of community stakeholders will be trained in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states in the coming weeks.
The second cohorts comprising of 60 select participants will be trained under an MoU with Centre for Peace, Development and Diplomatic Studies (CPDDS), University of Maiduguri, by running a 6-month certification course on transitional justice. In a Training of the Trainers approach, it is expected that at the end of the program the beneficiaries will be deployed to 9 select communities across the three states for a step-down training. We want to thank ATJLF for supporting this initiative.
