To strengthen community access to social protection and empowerment opportunities, GACRB, in collaboration with the Borno State Social Investment Management Programme (Bo-SIMP), conducted a capacity-building workshop for senior Local Government Area (LGA) officials across Borno State.

The workshop brought together 27 senior staff from various LGAs to enhance their knowledge and skills in community sensitisation, with a particular focus on the registration process for the National Social Register (NSR).

The National Social Register serves as a critical database that identifies vulnerable households and connects them to government-led social protection programmes, economic empowerment initiatives, and other forms of support. Effective community awareness is essential to ensuring that eligible individuals and families understand the importance of registration and can benefit from available interventions.

During the training, participants explored practical approaches to community engagement, effective communication strategies, and the roles local government officials play in increasing awareness and promoting inclusive registration within their communities.

A key outcome of the workshop was the strong commitment demonstrated by the participants to extend the knowledge gained to their respective LGAs. Subject to the approval of their LGA Chairmen, the officials pledged to organise step-down trainings for other government personnel and lead sustained community sensitisation activities on the importance of the National Social Register.

By strengthening the capacity of local government officials, the initiative is expected to improve public awareness, increase registration rates, and ensure that more vulnerable households are able to access social protection, economic empowerment, and other support programmes available through the National Social Register.

The workshop represents another important step towards building stronger local systems that enable communities to access the services and opportunities they need to improve their well-being.
